The relation of meaning of work with organizational commitment among nurses of Isfahan educational and therapeutic centers

Abstract

Meaningful working activities can yield benefits for organizations and lead to positive work outcomes such as job satisfaction, committed employees, loyalty and productivity. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships of meaningful work and organizational commitment among nursing personnel of Isfahan educational and therapeutic centers. 400 nursing personnel from seven university hospitals in Isfahan participated in this crosssectional study. Data were collected using demographic information, meaning of work(COPSOQ) and organizational commitment(Allen & Mayer) questionnaires. The liner regression was used for data analysis. the meaning of work had significant association with organizational commitment (P<0.001) and predicts 13% of the variance. The relations of meaning of work with affective and normative dimensions of organizational commitment were significant (P<0.001) and predict 16% and 5% of the variance respectively. There was not significant association between meaning of work and continuous organizational commitment (P>0.05). the presence of positive work meaningfulness accompany with higher levels of commitment to the organization. Therefore, nurses who feel meaningfulness will contribute more in works and organization.
