A series of some new 2,2'(2,5-dimethoxy-3,6-dioxocycloxa-1,4-diene-1-4-diyl)bis(azanediyl) diacetic acid analogues were synthesized with the objective for evaluation as antimicrobials. Reaction of 2,5-dibromo-3,6-dimethoxy-1,4- benzoquinone with amino acids in the presence of triethylamine in ethanol gave the corresponding title compounds. The structures of all the newly synthesized compounds have been supported by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their antibacterial activity in comparison with the standard drug Streptomycin.
