Spectroscopic elucidation of new metal hetroscorpionates: A novel class of antifungal and antibacterial agents
Abstract
Novel Transition metal complexes of an organylborat e ligand, hydrobis (benzoato) (salicylylaldehyde) borate have been synthesized as its potassium salt (KL), the treatment of KL with one equivalent of MCl 2 .6H 2 O gave complexes [ML(H 2 O) x .Cl] (X= 2, M= Co(II), Ni(II)) and one equivalent of CuCl 2 .2H 2 O gave [CuLCl] complex. All compounds were characte rized by elemental analyses, FTIR, 1 H NMR, ESI MS, UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques, the rmal analyses, conductivity and magnetic data measurements. On the basis of these studies, a six coordinate octahedral geometry around the Co(II), Ni(II) ions in the complexes and a four coordinate square planner around Cu(II) complex has been propo sed. Antifungal and antibacterial studies were carried out by performing Minimum Inhibitory C oncentration (MIC 80 ), Disc diffusion assay and WST1 cell cytotoxicity assay. The result showed that the test compounds possess potent anticandidial and antibacterial activities, when tr eated against different pathogenic fungi and bacteria.
