Chemical investigation of the aerial part of Gladiolus segetum has yielded a secondary metabolite (2, 5, 6- trihydroxy-2, 4-dimethyl-6-metoxy-1-benzofuran-3-one,). The metabolite is reported for the first time and the chemical structure is established by a variety of one and two-dimensional NMR experiments.
