Background: Carbamazine is a drug of choice for treatment of epilepsy, targeting its effect in particular structures of the brain tissue, mainly the cerebellum. Objective: The present study was carried out to evaluate the protective effect of ginkobiloba against carbamazine induced cerebellar neurotoxicity. Materials and method: To establish this goal a total number of 40 adult male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) weighing between 120-170g were divided into four equal groups ( Control,Tegretol treated, Ginkobiloba treated and mixed Tergetol-Ginkopiloba treated groups) . Results: The histopathological lesions were recorded in different treated groups and the immunohistochemical reactivities of apoptotic P53 and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) were studied. Conclusion: Using of ginkobiloba extracts could induced to a certain limits a neuroprotective effect against carbamazine induced neurotoxicity.
