Mixed metal complexes of Cu(I) and tetrathiomolybdate and Cu(II) and Oxomolybdate have been synthesized with Schiff bases of triethylenetetramine (trien) formed from salicylaldehyde and acetophenone. The complexes are characterized by elemental and thermal analysis, IR, UV - Visible spectral studies, magnetic and EPR studies. The tetrathiomolybdate complexes probably have a structure with Cu2Mo2S4 cluster linked to two more Cu (I) through sulphide bridges and have a composition [(trien-4H)(C6H4(OH)CH)22CuI 2MoS4].6H2O & [(trien4H)(C6H5CCH3)22CuI 2MoS4] ..6H2O where (trien-4H) stands for trien less four hydrogens. The Oxo molybdate complexes have the compositions [(trien-4H) (C6H4 (OH)CH)2 2CuIIMoO4].4H2O and [(trien-4H)(C6H5CCH3)22CuIIMoO4].4H2O with copper in +2 oxidation state.
