Hepatoprotective of Taraxacum officinale against liver damage induced by carbon tetrachloride in male rats

Abstract

Several phytomolecules have been reported as hepatoprotective agents against many xenobiotics. In this work, we study the efficacy of the hepatoprotective activity of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) against carbon tetrachloride induced liver damage in Wistar rats. Forty male albino rats were divided into five groups (8 rats each). Various liver dysfunction biomarkers were studied also deals with histopathology of liver sections. Results revealed that liver biomarkers in CCl4-treaed rats were significantly increased. In contrast, administration of alcoholic extract of dandelion herb revealed significant reduction indicating the effect of alcoholic dendalion extract in restoring the normal functional ability of hepatocytes. Histopathological parameters showed significant improvement compared to that of CCl4 group. In the meantime dandelion alcoholic extract contains luteolin, Leteblin glycoside, Chlorogenic acid and Cinnamic acid. In conclusion, the results obtained suggest a remarkable antihepatotoxic activity against carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity
