Herein we report an efficient and green protocol for the synthesis of 2-amino-4H-chromenes from three-component condensation of aldehydes, malononitrile and α or β-naphthol in water as the eco-friendly solvent using ionic liquid [EMIM][OH] as a catalyst at room temperature as well as under microwave irradiation.
